Homeadow Song Farm
Three Sisters Garden
Three Sisters Garden ia an annual project at Homeadow Song. The students plan, prepare the ground for and plant a Native
American “Three Sisters Garden” of corn, beans and squash. The bounty of the garden will be used in fall season
programming as fresh produce in addition to drying some of the crop for use during the winter in soups and bread prepared
in our earthen wood-fired oven..
The Native American Peoples revered corn so highly that much of their customs revolved around what was called a ‘Circle
of Life’. Corn was their Mother, their Sister. The book Brother Crow, Sister Corn, by Carol Buchanan brings to light the art
and science of the Native American gardening experience.
